Hazrat Maulana Shaykh Qutbud Din (Kakar)

Home

His blessed name was Jaam-e-Mahqool wal Manqool, Shaykh al Ulamaa wal Qur’an wal Hadith, Hazrat Maulana Qutbud Din Ghorghushtawi (عليه رحمة), affectionately known as Wadda Maulvi Sahib, Wadda Ji and Kundi (Staff) Waala Baba. He was the son of Hazrat Maulana Shahabud Din Ghorghushtawi (عليه رحمة). He studied from his forefathers and then studied under Hazrat Allamah Rashid Ahmad Ghongoi (عليه رحمة) during his last year in Ghongo, even before Deoband was established.

The Ulamaa-e-Hind (India) bestowed upon Him the title of ‘Shaykh al Hind’, and after performing Hajj in 1940 at the grand old age of 101, He also taught in Makkah al Mukarramah for a short time due to his age. Nonetheless, this impressed the Ulamaa of Haramayn Shareef so much that He was given the title of ‘Haji al Haramayn Shareefayn'.

Back in Ghorghushti and earlier in life, the Hazrat established and taught in the Khajoor waali Masjid (Mosque of Dates) as well as teaching in many other Madaaris in which was then India.  He had many students which included Shaykh al Hadith Maulana Naseerud Din Ghorghushtawi (عليه رحمة); the grandfather of Hazrat Maulana Qari Muhammad Imdadullah Qasmi (of Masjid-e-Hamza, Birmingham, UK); the father of Hazrat Maulana Manzoor al Haq (عليه رحمة); and two brothers, one of whom was a Shaykh al Hadith in the Janaazah Gah of Ghorghushti; and then in His final years rendered His services at Kara Khel Masjid before coming to the Janaazah Gah Masjid.

Hazrat sahib (عليه رحمة) passed away on Friday 17th November 1950, (6th Safar 1360AH) at the age of 110 and is resting with His blessed wife, one son and two daughters at the burial plot of the Kakar tribe in Ghorghushti.
